Ford has unveiled the eighth generation of its best-selling Fiesta compact car with a more evolutionary design compared to the complete redraw it executed with the outgoing model.
Design innovation for the new car comes from creating different versions of the same model. A new Active version is given a crossover look with extra cladding and roof bars, the Vignale is more luxurious, while the ST-Line adds sports element such as a rear spoiler.
Each cars has unique bumpers, front foglight surrounds and grille treatments to better differentiate each from the others. The Active has a raised ride height to increase the SUV quality, while the sportier ST-Line is slightly lowered.
The underlying design, overseen by Ford Europe’s head of design Joel Piaskowski, is less cluttered with the aim of creating a more premium look. The bonnet ‘power bulge’ has been removed to place more emphasis on the wider grille. The car is longer, with less of a wedge profile to give more credence to its more upscale aims.
Ford’s idea is to price the new Fiesta higher that the old one and leave the new, bigger Ka+ to mop up the more budget-minded supermini buyers.
